Marion County Fire District No. 1 is accepting applications to fill immediate openings, as well as to establish a hiring list for the position of Single Role Paramedic.

Marion County Fire District #1 is accepting applications to establish hiring for the position of a Full -Time Volunteer Coordinator. This position will be posted internally to current Marion County Fire District career personnel and volunteer firefighters/support services who meet required qualifications and external candidates who meet required qualifications. This is a grant funded position for 4 years.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Volunteer Coordinator manages the district’s volunteer programs including the recruitment, scheduling, and retention of Volunteers. The position may assist with coordination and participation of Community Risk Reduction and public education programs and may act as a liaison between the districts and other volunteer and/or community programs. The Volunteer Coordinator will also serve as a representative to the MCFD NO.1 Volunteer Foundation. This position is a non-represented/non-civil service, limited-response position, and will not be eligible to volunteer with MCFD 1. Due to the Grant Funding of this position and associated requirements, this position is not eligible for Wildland Conflagration Deployment.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The applicant must have knowledge of and experience with organizations that have volunteer and paid personnel; the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing to groups and individuals; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both career and volunteer personnel within the department; the ability to coordinate, schedule and monitor the activities and assignments of District volunteers. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and/or weekends; able to meet knowledge, health, and physical qualifications established by the district

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Preference will be given for applicants with an associate degree in Paramedicine

(Or, if other relevant higher education degrees are obtained and submitted, the Fire Chief or his designee will review and evaluate educational achievements consistent with the job description for approval in lieu of the associate degree in Paramedicine; OR, any combination of work experience and certifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities) relevant to the position as determined by the Fire Chief or his designee).

  • NFPA Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I or current/active historically recognized equivalent
  • NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800 course completions
  • NFPA Hazardous Materials Awareness or current/active historically recognized equivalent
  • ACLS Certified
  • PALS or PEPP Certified

WAGE SCALE IS DEPENDENT ON EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, Public Administration, Communications,
    or other related field
  • Associate Degree in Fire Science or Emergency Services
  • Firefighting and/or emergency service experience
  • Experience with Social Media, advertising, and or News reporting.

WAGE SCALE

Wage for this position is $50,000 annually not including District benefit package including health care and retirement benefit options. Workdays will be based on a 40-hour work week with mandatory attendance of evening Volunteer Foundation meetings and various drills, established by the Supervisor.
